The CSS Z-index concept

The CSS Z-index property is used to specify the position of an element relative to other elements. It's like the frosting on a cake: whichever layer is on top is visible, obscuring the layers below it. With CSS Z-index, the layers that are in front get a higher number, both negative and positive. However, to use z-index, you need to have a positioning beforehand, which can be anything except the default static.
